AL BATEEN WHARF
Animating the wharf.
A dynamic mixed-use waterfront development on Abu Dhabi’s historic Al Bateen Wharf is unified by the landscape, creating a strong sense of place and identity at the water's edge. A collection of unique spaces, dot the pedestrian realm, evoking traditional Wharf uses, while showcasing leading edge sustainability practices. The streetscape design also reinforces the importance of the public sphere by physically separates automobiles while visually unifying the East Bay and West Bay. The resulting pedestrian experience connects people to architecture, landscape, and the water.
A core facet of the design is found in the selective injection of interactive public art at key points. These art 'moments', animate the Wharf, bringing a sense of play and discovery to the shoreline. The result is a modern marina that has revitalized the area into a business, cultural and recreational destination that is both urban while preserving the fishermen’s heritage and traditions.
