ASHBRIDGES BAY SKATEPARK

Cultural icon for youth anchors old Toronto shoreline.

Ashbridges Bay Skatepark is Canada's largest street skatepark and an icon for the region's youth. Sitting atop Toronto's original shoreline it's unique location and features, including replica swimming pool style bowls, are attracting a growing following.

The techical challenge of building a significant 25,000 square foot skatepark facility on varied unconsolidate landfill didn't stop Toronto's Skate community and City Councilors from progress. LANDinc lead a multi-disciplinary team in the development of strategies to secure the park for generations of use.

Earthforms organize the skatepark above the previous low elevations to enable a relationship with Lakeshore Boulevard providing visual access for safety, security and identity purposes. Highly unique and dynamic skate features have been created in this innovative skatepark, including signature elements such as a replica Commerce Court Circle, a free-standing Kinked Steep Bank over 6 feet tall, the Daewon Song “Style Pad”, the Concrete Recliner, and “Lily Pad” Floating manual Dish. Textured concrete panels, coloured metals, planting and acid etched banding have been integrated into the project design and construction to create a unique and memorable aesthetic experience for this standout Skatepark Plaza.
